Idaho Sheriff Rips Military Gear Ban
An Idaho sheriff is questioning President Barack Obama’s order ending the transfer of some combat-style gear to local law enforcement. Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said the prohibition is an overreaction to recent events and images of combat-ready police trying to quell violence and looting, first in Ferguson, Mo., and then in Baltimore. An armored personnel carrier owned by Bannock County is on the list of items Obama prohibited from future transfers. “A lot of people are concerned about the militarization of the police, and I don’t know. Maybe part of that is our fault,” Nielsen told the Idaho State Journal in Pocatello. “In most cases, we’ve used the vehicle for rescue and to get officers close enough to negotiate with a suspect that might be shooting at you”/Idaho State Journal. Question: Do you think the law enforcement agencies in Kootenai County use their military vehicles appropriately?
