Abedini's wife to quit advocacy, claims abuse 

Naghmeh Abedini, wife of a Boise pastor who has been imprisoned in his native Iran since 2012, said she will quit advocating publicly for his release. Mrs. Abedini claims that her husband has subjected her to "physical, emotional, and sexual abuse." Respected Christianity Today provides the report.

Report: Background checks work 

Gun control advocates are renewing their calls to expand background checks. Everytown for Gun Safety released a new report Thursday that found mass shootings are 52 percent less likely in states that require people to go through a background check before purchasing a handgun.

Spokane woman's body pulled from Lake CdA 

Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputies recovered the body of Kimberly Sue Vezina, 27, of Spokane, from Lake Coeur d'Alene Monday afternoon. At 1:45 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to an area near Fullers Bay at the south end of Lake Coeur d’Alene to investigate a dead body found floating in the water. KCSO is treating death as suspicious.

New LDS LGBT rules trigger backlash 30 

New Mormon church rules targeting gay members and their children have triggered a firestorm of backlash from church members of all political backgrounds. Mormon scholar Patrick Mason said the symbolism of targeting kids has riled up even conservative, orthodox (members) who don’t usually get on the LGBT bandwagon or question church decisions.

Sandpoint man wins $1M in lottery 

Randy Branum of Sandpoint, who faithfully mailed in his winning lottery tickets, both Scratch and Draw games, for payment is Idaho's newest millionaire. In a press release, the Idaho Lottery said that Branum is the first to send in a ticket worth $1M via mail. The ticket comes from a Sept. 23 drawing.

Greensferry Overpass to open at 4

The Greensferry Overpass will be open today until 3 p.m. as a pedestrian "bridge walk" and then the contractor, RL Wadsworth, will decide if all construction equipment is removed to open up for traffic. The Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency anticipates that the overpass will be open by 4 p.m. today

The FBI is investigating the shooting death of an Adams County rancher by sheriff’s deputies for possible federal criminal violations by the officers. U.S. Attorney for Idaho Wendy Olson announced the federal investigation at a meeting with reporters at her office Thursday in Boise.

Idahoan Chelle Gluch is living proof that to be poor -- and to fall in the insurance gap created by Idaho GOP legislators who refuse to expand Medicaid -- is a death sentence. She's lost 10 teeth, a finger and several toes because she can't afford medical treatment. But that isn't all of her health problems caused by unnecessary suffering.

I drank a cup of coffee today at Longboard (formerly Kootenai Coffee) -- and I can't remember what the cup looked like. I don't think it was red. And I don't think it said anything about Christmas. And I didn't give tell the barista that my name was "Merry Christmas." All know about that cup was this: It was dark roast. It hit the spot.

Sandpoint plans for new stadium 

Sandpoint's iconic Memorial Field will be getting a makeover. A local option sales tax to raise $2.7 million for the stadium passed last week with 73 percent of the vote. The money will go toward funding new grandstands, with an additional 600 seats.
