Edinger to gun group: I own 3 guns

In response to an attack on the Second Amendment Alliance Facebook site, Councilman Ron Edinger sent Huckleberries the following statement:

"It has been brought to my attention today that there are flyers and political materials circulating claiming that I’m not supportive of the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution that protects and guarantees our right to own guns. Nothing could be further from the truth than this false charge. I’m the owner of three firearms. My family including my children, grandchildren and brothers for many years have been ardent outdoorsmen that have used guns to hunt wild game as well as using firearms for sports and protection. As a matter of fact, one of my son-in-laws is presently on a two-week hunting trip and one of my grandsons spent today in a tree stand hunting.

"When these flyers address a now repealed Coeur d’Alene City Ordinance that was adopted in the late 1990’s directed at preventing the Aryan Nations from carrying guns during their marches down Sherman Avenue, that ordinance in no way was an attempt to support gun control or take away our right to own guns. The ordinance intent was to prevent the Aryan Nations’ while marching in downtown Coeur d’Alene from carrying guns during those marches. It was an extremely dangerous criminal group that had a history of numerous felonies including murder, bank robberies, counterfeiting money and bombings---a real danger to our community as they marched in our City. Lets not forget that earlier in the mid 1980’s they had bombed the home of Catholic Priest Bill Wasssmuth in an attempt to kill him for his work for human rights. They also bombed sites in downtown Coeur d’Alene. As members of the City Council and the Mayor, we had the responsibility and duty of keeping our City and its residents safe from this danger.

"I would hope that the peddlers of these false statements and engaging in dirty politics are not suggesting that the criminals who joined the Aryan Nations were not a threat to our citizens.

"As the local media has recently warned the public, you can expect false statements and even dirty politics by some candidates and organizations as we near election day. I urge all citizens to be aware of these falsehoods and reject this type of dirty and unethical politics. This is the same type of dirty politics that was recently used in an attempt to interject partisan politics into this year’s Coeur d’Alene City elections."
