Kibbie Dome #10 venue in USA? 

From out of the blue comes a report from College Football Fan Index (as published in USA Today) that UI's Kibbie Dome is the No. 10 on the list of "Ten stadiums with the best atmosphere in college football." Can that be? The stadiums for LSU (Tiger Stadium), Ohio State (Ohio Stadium) and UCLA (Rose Bowl) rank 1-2-3 on the list?

Update: Bekken gets 107 days in jail 

Moments ago, Joseph Bekken, former financial director for North Idaho College, was sentenced to 107 days in the Kootenai County Jail, 3 years probation and given a $10,000 fine. Bekken admitted guilt in crimes that involved using his position with the college to solicit financial aid for sex. (Q: Do you agree with the sentence?)

CPD targets school zone speeding

For those keeping score at home ... the speed limit for school zones with children present is 20 mph. You should know that because Coeur d'Alene police are cracking down on speeders. You could end up with a ticket well north of $100 if you violate limits in speed zones.

Avista wants more dough from Idaho 

Avista’s Idaho customers could begin paying more for electricity and natural gas on Jan. 1. The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is expected to act on the settlement in December. If approved, a typical household would see its monthly electric bill increase by 0.9 percent, or 75 cents, for a total of $85.74.

Extremists don't represent NIdaho 

In a recent online column, Randy Stapilus of the Ridenbaugh Press says that the extremists in control of the GOP machinery are a minority who don't reflect the mainstream conservative views of the area. But they're organized and they vote. Stapilus came to this conclusion during a tour of the panhandle with Chris Carlson.

A half-dozen pro-wolf activists from around the country demonstrated at the Idaho Statehouse today, and a woman from Virginia chained herself to the door of the governor’s office, demanding that Gov. Butch Otter respond to the group’s concerns. Otter, ironically, was in Virginia. (Q: Ah, do you think this approach will work with Otter?)

Poll: Most want more gun control 18 

Most Americans want stricter gun control laws in the wake of multiple mass shootings, according to a new poll from Gallup that found support for tighter firearm rules jumping by 6% since 2014. The latest Gallup survey released today said that 55% want more restrictive gun control guidelines, a total up from 49% the year before.

Cenex clerk thwarts robbery try

Coeur d'Alene police are looking for a man in a red-hooded sweat shirt who tried to rob Cenex Zip Trip at 15th Street & Best Ave this morning. The male was thwarted when the store clerk refused to give him money and walked into a back room. The male matches the description of a robber who took $250 from Frontier Grocery in Post Falls.

Medicaid ideology hurts Idaho 

Frankie Barnhill of Boise State Public Radio reports that states that expanded Medicaid saw many more people added to their state-run health insurance plan but only a slight increase in cost. However, state's like Idaho who refused to expand Medicaid not only hurt constituents but saw Medicaid costs increase by twice as much.

Bobby Wilhelm admits his late father was right -- that he was mostly to blame for the bad reputation of Bob's 21 Club in Post Falls. Now, he and his sister's have remodeled the bar and are working to restore its reputation. Bob's 21 Club is one of the oldest family-owned businesses in the area.

Cops: Man dialed 911 during drug deal

Police in Idaho Falls, Idaho, say an Oregon man accidentally dialed 911 while making an alleged drug deal that was overheard by dispatchers. The Post-Register reports that (http://goo.gl/Zv0OsB) Lawan Sanders, of Portland, is accused of several drug-related charges stemming from the Sept. 27 incident.
