Kerby: Sun Valley, Bergdahl are Idaho

Darrell Kerby, former mayor of Bonners Ferry, offers his thoughts via Facebook re: the struggle Idahoans have with the trial and eventual sentencing of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. This post is made with Darrell Kerby's permission:

"Idahoans are often viewed as a bit politically schizophrenic so it is always dangerous to generalize since there are always exceptions to generalizations but to say that Sun Valley, Idaho, is classic Idaho would be like saying Key West is classic America. The über rich that breeze in and out of Blaine County and the environment that this creates is for the most part -- and I generalize -- an Island of liberalism in an ocean of conservatism. This environment in part helps explain the embarrassment of Bowe Bergdahl. While the Bergdahls could have existed anywhere in Idaho, it seems almost natural that this progressive-leaning family would call Blaine County home. It is true that Bowe Bergdahl is innocent until proven guilty, but most of Idaho takes no joy in one of its citizens being charged with desertion. We can only hope that real justice and not politically expedient justice prevails for the truth is that both Sun Valley and Bowe Bergdahl are Idaho.  And all of us are grieving for this family and take pride that Sun Valley is Idaho."
