Idaho has 42 school districts and 11 charter schools that have moved to a four-day school week, according to a study issued in July; that number has grown from just 14 school districts and two charter schools in 2008-09. Nationwide, just 1 percent of school districts have chosen that course. The July study, by the Rural Opportunities Consortium of Idaho, concluded that the change didn’t deliver significant cost savings, and there was little data on how it impacted student achievement.
