Crash w/4-wheeler kills Fernan man

Kootenai County Sheriff's Department news release:

At about 4:30 pm. Thursday, Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Fernan Lake Road, just east of Fernan Lake Village for a single vehicle, injury crash. Deputies found a red Kawasaki Mule UTV had rolled down the hillside from a residence above Fernan Lake and came to rest on Fernan Lake Road. The driver, 56YO Gregg Larson of Coeur d’Alene, was partially ejected from the UTV and unconscious when emergency responders arrived. It appears Larson had been doing some landscape work at his residence on Fernan Terrace Drive when he backed his UTV too close to the steep embankment and it went over the edge, rolling several times down the hillside. The UTV came to rest at the bottom of the hill, approximately 63 feet from the area he was working on. Larson was transported to Kootenai Health and then transferred to Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into the crash is ongoing and results of the autopsy and toxicology will not be available for several weeks.
