Do doctor scales tell the truth?

On his Slice blog, Paul Turner writes:

"My allergist's office is closing at the end of this month. I have been a patient there for almost 28 years. Yesterday afternoon was my last appointment. On my way out, I did not head straight for the exit. I made a point of paying a visit to the office scale. Over the years, that scale has been a depressing presence in my life. No matter what our scale at home said, the scale in the allergist's office always weighed in with a significantly heavier reading. Significantly. If I was feeling good about my current weight, that scale would wipe the smile off my face. I have to admit it. It started messing with my mind." More here.

Question: Can you identify with Paul's situation re: medical scales?
