Pope’s visit has local connection

Among those who made the historic trip with Pope Francis to Cuba today is Cindy Wooden, Vatican press corps chief and a former Sandpoint resident. Marianne Love/Slight Detour writes earlier today: "We're about to witness a bit of history, starting today as Pope Francis visits Cuba and, later, when he visits the United States. At the risk of sounding redundant from past Slight Detour posts over the years, we, who know and love Cindy (Wooden) are "busting our buttons" with pride that our hometown girl and her staff of Catholic News Service reporters at the Vatican are recording this historic trip. This trip, for Cindy, has increased significance in that she travels with the Vatican press corps as Vatican Bureau Chief."
