I have planned two glorious days of working in the yard and grabbing some sun rays. Nice spring and summer weekends are made for those of us who are stuck inside during work days. I might plant something, just to feel an early sense of gardening accomplishment. The cold weather stuff is a can't miss this nice spring.

Parting Shot -- 4.1.16 

A giant octopus sculpture named Ivan settles into his new home in Lake Robertson near Lexington, Va. The sculpture was created by Natural Bridge based artist Mark Cline who along with his helpers, owed Ivan to the middle of the lake Wednesday after putting the creation together at the boat launch to be displayed for April Fools' Day.

Ex-broadcaster Shaw battling cancer 

Randy Shaw, who appeared on nightly newscasts in Spokane for three decades, is battling cancer after moving to Arizona just a few months ago to run a restaurant with his wife. Shaw, who after stints with KHQ and KREM is the longest-serving TV news broadcaster in Spokane’s history, said Friday he was receiving rounds of chemotherapy.

NCAA: Officials blew key Zags call 

For Gonzaga, the timing could not have been worse. Coach Mark Few told The Associated Press the NCAA called to inform him officials blew the call on a 10-second violation that went against the Bulldogs late in Syracuse’s come-from-behind win in the Sweet 16. The turnover came with 1:17 left and Gonzaga leading 60-59.

Rusche: Proud of F-minus IFF grade 13 

House Minority Leader John Rusche, D-Lewiston, takes pride in the fact that he received an F-minus rating, as did about half of the Idaho Legislature, from the extreme Idaho Freedom Foundation "Freedom Index." The "Freedom Index" grading system shows how skewed the organization is -- not the legislators it claims to track, he said.

From Post Falls PD Facebook: "Battery, Caboose Court: The (reporting party) advised he attempted to confront the driver of a vehicle speeding through the neighborhood. When he did so, the driver exited his vehicle and punched the (reporting party) in the face before leaving the area. The suspect was located and ultimately arrested for battery."

Paper suspends gun-packing editor 14 

The editor of the Missoulian was suspended until “further notice” this week, according to an internal email acquired by the Missoula Current. Staffers not wishing to be identified said the paper’s editor, Matt Bunk, was seen with a firearm in the office last week. Carrying a firearm on company property is against Lee Enterprises’ corporate policy.

Hoffman defends 'Freedom Index' 22 

Executive Director Wayne Hoffman of the Idaho Freedom Foundation continues to double down on his organization's so-called "Freedom Index." Hoffman claims that the "Freedom Index" separates true conservatives from phonies. Methinks the index separates conservative legislators from extremists like Heather Scott & Sheryl Nuxoll.

April Fools: CdA, Post Falls merge 

In deference to April Fool's Day, the Coeur d'Alene Press announced this morning that the cities of Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls have merged to form a giant North Idaho municipality. The action was taken after several weeks of clandestine meetings. The Press turned to reporter April Fuhl to write her annual April 1 story.

Patty Duke's cause of death important

The decision of Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke’s family to describe her cause of death as sepsis is helping bring national attention to the life-threatening but little-known condition, health advocates say. Duke, 69, died Tuesday at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene of sepsis following a ruptured intestine.

Trillhaase notes that half the Idaho Legislature received F-minus grades in IFF's "Freedom Index." Which means that the organizations claim to being "most influential public policy organization" is questionable.
