Sign of the times

Greg Lee and I spotted this change in the 4 Corners area during our walk along the waterfront Tuesday. It appears that Mullan Road has disappeared -- literally -- to be replaced by a street that will be called Fort Grounds Drive. The new name is hanging from a traffic lights standard at Government Way & Northwest Boulevard.

Future of old Hayden school at stake

The Coeur d'Alene School Board debated a plan by the Long Range Planning Committee to sell the old Hayden Lake Elementary School, which now stands empty. Trustee Dave Eubanks urged caution: "I think we need to hang on to Hayden Lake Elementary School as a bird in the hand."

Boat races on river to get go ahead 

Despite environmental concerns, it's full speed ahead for jet boat races on the Coeur d'Alene River in May, according to the Coeur d'Alene Press. ... Kootenai County Sheriff Ben Wolfinger said he plans to sign off on a marine permit in the next week or so, allowing the race to happen on the river Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 25.
