Press letter: Christmas for atheists 26 

In a letter published in Sunday's Cda Press, Michael Quinn takes issue with a story about atheists and Christmas. He writes, "Had to laugh at Tuesday’s article, “Christmas for Atheists.” I mean, seriously. Isn’t that like prime rib for vegetarians?" He says he has a problem with atheism. Do you?

N. Idaho businessmen launch Arizona hydroplane event

Two North Idaho businessmen are putting together a 4-day, water festival near Phoenix in Feb., featuring hydroplane racing, music and more. CEO Greg Cook, a retired Air Force Colonel from Coeur d’Alene, co-founded the effort with business partner Patrick Stroud, a Marine Corps veteran from Wallace. A public briefing is scheduled Thursday in Cda.

Caldwell mom pleads guilty in Amber Alert case

A Caldwell woman who triggered an Amber Alert after taking three children on a trip along with a suspected child molester has changed her plea in the case. The Idaho Statesman reports Sarah Joy Dunn pleaded guilty last week to a felony charge of custodial interference. She had previously entered a not guilty plea.

Water: The difference between CdA and Spokane 

My husband and I spent the weekend before Christmas in CdA enjoying some much-needed time away-- dining out and attending a wedding. Aside from much lower restaurant bills one thing stood out-- water. At Bardenay and at Rivelle's servers brought water to the table without our asking.

Emotionally wrenching politics, foreign conflicts and shootings at home took a toll on Americans in 2016, but they are entering 2017 on an optimistic note, according to a new poll that found that a majority believes things are going to get better for the country next year. RIP Carrie Fisher 

Actress and writer Carrie Fisher, who rose to global fame as the trail-blazing intergalactic heroine Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise and later went on to establish herself as an author and screenwriter with an acerbic comic flair, has died. My sons are sooo sad this morning. All of them had a Princess Leia crush.

Nampa police to get body cameras

Police officers in Nampa are likely to be wearing new body cameras in 2017. The Idaho Press-Tribune reported that police department administrators selected Utility Associates Inc. to provide new cameras and software at a price of no more than $100,000.

Student’s poignant speech on tolerance continues to resonate

In January, then-senior Ava Sharifi delivered a powerful message to her fellow students at Lewis and Clark High school. “I do not want to live in a world where at 17 years old I must worry about the color of my children’s skin,” she said in a speech delivered in mid-January. “We must take action; we cannot let darkness consume our hearts.”
