Montana woman died of exposure 

A woman who was found unconscious near the Coeur d'Alene Resort and later died Wednesday has been identified as 72YO Lois May Falcon of St. Regis, Mont. The Kootenai County Coroner's Office has decided that her death was caused by hypothermia due to exposure. Falcon was able to get out of her vehicle after she drove it off the 3rd Street dock.

IFF opposes Otter's $30M gap plan 

In his column today, executive director Wayne Hoffman of the Idaho Freedom Foundation opposed plans announced by Gov. Butch Otter to spend $30 million to provide "gap" coverage for uninsured Idahoans. Hoffman said Otter should focus on tax relief rather than a government entitlement.

Warming center open thru Sunday

The St Vincent de Paul North Idaho Warming Center will be open tonight through Sunday night. This season the center has been open 35 nights so far this season, and it looks like (the region) is heading for another long cold stretch. The Post Falls Shelter located at 202 W. 7th Street in Post Falls.

The protesters who took over a federal building in southeast Oregon did not accept the local sheriff's offer for safe passage out of the state. On Facebook, the Harney County Sheriff's office announced: " ... the people on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge made it clear that they have no intention of honoring the sheriff's request to leave."

President Obama vetoed legislation Friday that would have repealed the Affordable Care Act and stripped all federal funds from Planned Parenthood, writing in his veto message that the measure would “reverse the significant progress we have made in improving health care in America.”

No wonder Idaho has poor go-on rate 

In a survey last September of 385 just-graduated high school seniors from across the state, a third weren’t completely convinced that a college education would get them a high working wage. Moreover, just 17 percent of those surveyed said they strongly believed that an Idaho post-secondary education was a good value.

KH CEO: Idaho suffering doc shortage 

John Ness, CEO of Kootenai Health, told lawmakers today that Idaho needs to recruit more physicians because the state has a doctor shortage: Many in North Idaho go to Spokane for lack of physician access, he said. “They are leaving our state because they can’t get access to physician practices. So we have an access problem."

Powerball soars to $800M 

The record Powerball jackpot just got bigger, climbing to $800 million as sales soared in the days leading up to the drawing. Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, says officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association on Friday raised the estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing from $700 million because of strong sales.
