In response to an incident reported by Taylor Viydo/KREM re: a family that was locked in Riverview Cemetery on 4th of July, Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor comments that the city of Coeur d'Alene regrets the incident. A city employee had locked the cemetery after the family refused to leave to prevent people from shooting fireworks off there.
I enjoyed the full Coeur d'Alene 4th of July experience Monday: 4th of July Parade in downtown Coeur d'Alene, a family potluck picnic in my back yard, and then the fireworks show from City Beach at night. By day, Vikki Bonfield is mayor of Asotin, Wash., near Lewiston. By night, she's the cat catcher of Asotin County. Mayor Bonfield has trapped 45 wild cats in her town. She takes them to the Lewis Clark Animal Shelter to be spayed or neutered. The city pays $100 for every two cats spayed or neutered.

Prosecutors and defense lawyers for Kyle Odom, the man accused of shooting a CdA pastor in March, will meet with a district judge to discuss a possible plea agreement in the case. Any plea deal that emerges from the confidential mediation would be presented in open court to the judge in the case, who could accept or reject the agreement.
Our local jail saw a record number of defendants in custody to see a judge following the busy holiday weekend. Today, jail staff will escort 62 inmates to a court session, which will take place using a video-arraignment system. There are usually 25 to 30 inmates awaiting first appearances on the first working day of the week.

In his Idaho Politics Weekly column, Chuck Malloy comments that party Chairman Steve Yates & exec Dave Johnston have restored order to the Idaho Republican Party, despite its deep divisions. Johnston, a 27YO who has mastered the art of herding cats, and Yates are responsible for an orderly party convention last month, Malloy comments.
As of Friday, Waste Management no longer serves as the garbage hauler for Coeur d'Alene as the service transitioned to Coeur d'Alene Garbage. Waste Management asks that all old containers be left out where they are visible and they will be removed. (City says the removal process will take the entire month.)
In a weekend editorial, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase takes Police Chief Chris Ankeny of Lewiston to task for his new policy that cuts the public off from information from his office on weekends. Ankeny has declared that his office won't provide public information on crimes from noon Friday to noon Monday.
