Gun group to protest actor’s Idaho visit

Here's a press release from the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance:

Gun rights advocates will come together July 20 to protest an appearance by Matt Damon at The Village in Meridian, the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance announced Thursday.

“Matt Damon revealed himself as a gun-grabber,” ISAA President Greg Pruett said Thursday. “Idahoans don’t take kindly to those who would strip us of our protected rights.”

Damon, who regularly appears in movies featuring firearms, recently advocated for an Australia-like gun confiscation program in the United States.

The actor’s visit comes the same month Idaho legalized permitless concealed carry after ISAA’s four-year fight to pass the policy. Backers of the change, including GOP Congressman Raul Labrador, called the new law a “sea-change” for Idaho.

Pruett, who founded ISAA in 2012, criticized Damon’s attack on constitutional rights.

“If Matt Damon wants Australia-like gun-control measures, we’d invite him to move to Perth, or Sydney,” Pruett said. “It’s pretty disingenuous for Mr. Damon to promote his gun-filled film in this gun-friendly state after calling for such sweeping and ridiculous anti-Second Amendment gun control.”

ISAA has set up a Facebook event page to promote and coordinate the protest. Interested parties can learn more on the group’s Facebook page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/IdahoSecondAmendmentAlliance.
