I have one word for all of you who think a Donald Trump presidency isn't possible: Brexit. Few predicted that the Brits would vote in solid numbers to leave the European Union. I suspect that a lot of people are still figuring out which of the main party candidates represents the Lesser of Two Evils. I still opt for "None of the Above."

Judge Richard Magnuson, RIP 

Retired District Judge Richard Magnuson, the second of three children of Harry & Mary Magnuson, died Monday at his Wallace home. He was 89. Rob Curley has been selected as the new editor of The Spokesman-Review to replace editor Gary Graham, who earlier announced his plans to retire in the fall. Curley worked most recently at the Orange County Register and previously worked at the Las Vegas Sun and The Washington Post.

I'm amazed how many partisans believe that the world as we know it will end if the other side's candidate wins the presidency. Conservative firebrand Ann Coulter is the latest to say, "it's over," if her side doesn't win: “If Trump doesn’t win, it’s over,” she told The Washington Examiner Wednesday.

Donald Trump is enjoying a mid-convention bump in the polls, surging into within striking distance of Hillary Clinton in a national survey released Thursday. The Reuters-Ipsos rolling national poll shows Clinton leading Trump by 4 points, 40 to 36 percent.

I don't know what surprises me more -- that U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz didn't back down when given a chance to endorse Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio., last night. Or that Trump gave Cruz an opportunity to denounce him at the national convention. Can anyone explain what's going on?

Hastings to shut stores, liquidate 

Say it ain't so, Joe. The Norman (Okla.) Transcript reports that Hastings Entertainment is going to close all its stores by Oct. 31. The SR is working on a store. Hastings is one of the few stores that I frequent. It's popular in Coeur d'Alene. Nice vibe. But I suppose selling books, magazines and renting video isn't the way to go any more.
