Is it Fort Ground? Or Fort Grounds?

I've wondered what the correct designation is for the historic part of town surrounding NIC. I've seem it written Fort Ground. Fort Grounds. Fortground. And Fortgrounds. The SR uses Fort Grounds. The renamed Mullan Avenue, between City Park and Memorial Field, I believe, reads Fort Grounds Drive. Mayor Steve Widmeyer owns Fort Ground Tavern.

Letter: No. 75 at licensing department

Dan McFadden, of Hayden, is only the latest person to be snagged in the never-ending wait at the county's driver's licensing department. He tells his tale in a letter to the Coeur d'Alene Press. Dan was able to add levity to his three-hour wait that ... didn't end in a driver's license.

Who's to blame for all the litter along the North Fork? Shoshone County Sheriff Mitch Alexander is reluctant to point fingers. But evidence exists to show that Kootenai and Spokane county residents probably are. Here's a directional sign from the area. (Shoshone County SD courtesy photo)

Who's responsible for littering North Fork?

On the Shoshone County Sheriff's Department Facebook wall, there's a debate occurring re: who are the slobs trashing the popular North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River -- locals, Kootenai County residents or Washington residents. Evidence points to the latter two groups.

Don't shoplift at Walmart, Super 1

IdahoLiberal brings up a subject that I, as compiler of the Scanner Traffic features here, have wondered about. Do stores other than Walmart and Super 1 nail people for shoplifting. I rarely hear of shoplifters caught in other stores. Any law enforcement officials out there who can tell me why there aren't more shoplifting arrests?

Eden Irgens daughter, Riley, holds up her driver's license certificate, after receiving it this morning from the driver's license department. Riley waited 4 1/2 hours at the courthouse office to take her written and driving test -- and then returned this morning to get her license. Sheriff Ben Wolfinger weighed in on the problem of incredibly long lines and waits at the office that his department oversees. I don't know what needs to be done to fix this, but the sheriff, commissioners and Idaho Transportation Department needs to fix this unacceptable waste of county taxpayers' time.

Sheriff explains wait at drivers license office 13

Sheriff Ben Wolfinger responds to criticism re: long lines at driver's license department: ""Yes, I know that the lines are long I waited as well for my driver's license renewal. We have the same number of staff in Driver's License that we did 15 years ago. Turnover, sick days, vacations all add to lack of staff in the office." More below.
