Last night, in between our 41st anniversary and my mother's 91st birthday, Mrs. O asked me: "Do you think you'll live to be as old as your mother?" My immediate response was "no." Idaho's Republican presidential primary election cost taxpayers $1.9 million this year, coming in just slightly under what state officials originally estimated. The Legislature signed off on this waste of money because GOP political leaders wanted an earlier primary to influence the nomination process. Idaho R's picked Cruz. How did that work out?
Judging from comments by such GOP leaders as House Speaker Paul Ryan, as well as those by local R's on my Facebook wall, I'd say that the sit-in by House Democrats demanding a vote on gun control legislation has them rattled. One Facebook Friend asks whether it's dignified to have adults sitting on the floor of the U.S. House, like children.
In a Lewiston Tribune editorial this AM, Marty Trillhaase wonders how this country is going to get beyond its stalemate over guns when Congress can't even vote to keep them out of the hands of suspected terrorists.
