Edit: Allow alcohol at UI football games 

In today's editorial, Devin Rokyta of the Moscow-Pullman Daily News argues that the state of Idaho should allow alcohol at the University of Idaho football games. After all, the editorial says, UIdaho needs tailgate parties so fans can endure the insufferable matchups with University of South Alabama and Troy.

Latah Co GOP votes to oust Vice Chair 

The Kootenai County GOP Central Committee isn't the only county Republican body in the Panhandle that's an amusing side show. Latah County precinct committee members gave party Vice Chairman John Freeland a vote of no confidence in a secret ballot. Seems Freeland writes Facebook posts that upsets them.

Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little says he’s filing the paperwork today to form a campaign committee to run for governor in 2018. Little, the first candidate officially in the race – current Gov. Butch Otter isn’t running again after his third term – told the Idaho Statesman, “I fully expect to be the underdog.”

Harney County voters reject recall try 

Voters in Harney County, Ore. have overwhelmingly rejected an attempt to recall the county’s top elected official, County Judge Steve Grasty, in a special election today, Oregon Public Broadcasting reports. Grasty was an outspoken critic of the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

Crowds likely panicked moose 10 

Crowds gawking at a yearling moose that wandered into a north Spokane neighborhood might have frightened the animal, causing it to panic and run into traffic, wildlife officials said. The moose was hit by a driver who didn’t report the accident and was injured so badly that it had to be euthanized once it was finally tranquilized.

Information on the city of Coeur d'Alene web site tells residents who have been using Waste Management bins to switch over to the Coeur d'Alene Garbage ones immediately. But instructions I received on my new Coeur d'Alene Garbage bins yesterday said to use the Waste Management ones on Thursday per usual b/c switch starts Friday. What to do?

Deputy Administrator Sam Taylor responds to Farm Gal's questions re: the city decision not to post lifeguards at City Beach this summer. The issue isn't money, Taylor says. With competition from Triple Play, Silverwood and the Kroc Center, it's hard to find qualified young people willing to do the job.

The two conservationists left their fingerprints over so much that we take for granted. Tubbs Hill. Sanders Beach. Lake Coeur d'Alene. Cougar Bay. It makes me wonder. ER doc helps save plane crash victim 

Mike Ettner, a Kootenai Health ER doctor, was at his Hayden Lake home when he heard a large boom outside, according to Liz Burch/KHQ. The physician jumped in his boat and helped rescue 75YO Terry Holman of Spokane who had tried to land on Hayden Lake. You can read or listen to Liz's story via the link below.

Woolworth CdA 

At the Old School North Idaho Facebook page, followers are debating when Woolworth's burned in downtown Coeur d'Alene. The store burned April 26, 1980, destroying $300,000 worth of merchandise. It was originally opened in 1933 in the heart of the Great Depression. Coeur d'Alene residents were delighted that they could by things for 5 or 10 cents.

Idahoans can carry a concealed gun without needing licenses or training starting Friday, just in time for Independence Day. Another dog park for Lake City? 

Pooches in Coeur d'Alene could have another park to play off-leash in. The city council will be asked to consider creating a dog park at Phippeny Park between north Seventh and Eighth streets. The city's Public Works Committee agreed Monday to forward a request to the city council for consideration.

Istanbul airport attack kills at least 28

New York Times: "Suicide attackers armed with bombs and guns struck Turkey’s largest airport Tuesday night, blowing themselves up in a confrontation with police. Officials said that at least 28 people were killed in the attack, and one official who spoke to The Associated Press put the toll at nearly 50."

No lifeguards at CdA City Beach 18 

The iconic white lifeguard towers at City Beach in Coeur d’Alene have been removed and there will no longer be any lifeguards on duty starting this summer, reports Taylor Viydo/KREM 2. ... Officials from the City of Coeur d'Alene said the change came down to a staffing issue.

Idaho’s SAT Day scores provide a snapshot that covers most of the state’s high school juniors. But not all of them. All told, 17,470 of Idaho’s 21,367 11th graders took the SAT on April 12 — an 81 percent participation rate. Bonner County Bee reports: "Saying he cannot walk away from the responsibility he feels to ensure the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is more responsive to the county’s citizens, Terry Ford has announced a write-in campaign for sheriff. Ford lost the Republican nomination for the sheriff’s post to incumbent Sheriff Daryl Wheeler, 4,508 to 3,547."

Poll: Agree w/UI, BSU alcohol ban

In Monday's poll, most of Hucks Nation agreed with the decision by the Idaho Education Board to ban alcohol to general admission fans at UIdaho and Boise State football games. Some wanted the ban to extend to fans in the luxury boxes. Today's Poll: Do you agree w/US Supreme Court decision striking down Texas law that limits access to abortion.

US Attorney: Statement misinterpreted 

U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson has issued a second statement on the Twin Falls juvenile sex assault case after she says many people misinterpreted her preliminary statement. On Friday, Olsen said in a statement that she's encouraging all residents to "remain calm and supportive, to pay close attention to the facts ..."
