U.S. airborne troops participate in joint military exercises of the U.S., British and Georgian troops at the Vaziani military base outside Tbilisi, Georgia, Wednesday. About 1,300 U.S., British and Georgian troops are conducting joint exercises aimed at training the former Soviet republic's military for participation in the NATO Response Force.

Malek, Riggs, Amador outraise foes

Three contested North Idaho legislative GOP primary races have seen lopsided fundraising, according to campaign finance reports, with incumbent Rep. Luke Malek, R-Coeur d’Alene, far outpacing challenger Art Macomber in fundraising; while challengers Peter Riggs and Paul Amador each have raised more than twice as much as the incumbents.

SupCo wannabe disputes donation err

A spokesman for Robyn Brody’s campaign for the Idaho Supreme Court says the campaign is disputing the Idaho Secretary of State’s office’s finding that four donations, totaling $27,000, that it received from four farm-related firms exceeded the state Sunshine Law’s limits because the firms are related by a single owner.

Hmm. Some residents in House District 3 are buzzing about a mass political mailing by state Rep. Donald Cheatham, R-Post Falls, on what appears to be a letterhead from the Idaho House of Representatives. Cheatham has a disclaimer at the bottom that sez all costs associated with the mailing were paid for by his campaign.

Keough raises $77K 

Sen. Shawn Keough’s campaign finance report is a whopping 31 pages long, showing that she’s raised $76,931 in campaign contributions since Jan. 1 for her re-election bid. She is being challenged in the GOP primary by Glenn Rohrer of Priest River, and also targeted by the Idaho Freedom Foundation and by an anonymous “retireshawnkeough.com” website.

Amador doubles up on Rep Sims 

In the GOPrimary race for the House District 4B seat, challenger Paul Amador has raised more than twice as much money -- total -- then three-term incumbent Kathy Sims, R-Coeur d'Alene. Amador's campaign finance report shows that he has raised $18,155 to date, compared to Sims' $7,657. Sims has also loaned her campaign $6,257.

Malek laps Macomber in fund-raising 

In the race for the House District 4A GOPrimary nod, incumbent Rep. Luke Malek, R-Coeur d'Alene, has raised 7X more money than Tea Party challenger Arthur Macomber. Malek has raised $48,489 total to defend his House seat, while Macomber has raised $6,891. You can read the campaign disclosures of both men below.

Malek, Fillios lead in fund raising

Chris Fillios is outpacing other Kootenai County commissioner candidates with financial contributions heading into Tuesday's primary election. On the legislative side, Rep. Luke Malek, R-Coeur d'Alene, has a large financial lead on GOP challenger Art Macomber in the race for his District 4A seat. Malek reported $31,200 in contributions.

Transparent Idaho has released its 2016 salary list of employees who make more than Gov. Butch Otter. Three Boise State employees round out the top three with head football coach Bryan Harsin at the top, with just over $1.1 million. Basketball coach Leon Rice and president Bob Kustra come in second and third respectively.

H&W chair apologizes for slur 18 

The chairman of the Idaho Board of Health and Welfare came under fire Tuesday for comments posted on the Idaho Freedom Action Facebook page, calling someone a “retard.” Reached at his Bonners Ferry office, Darrell Kerby told the Statesman that he recognized his mistake and deleted the comments within minutes.

Manhunt continues for shooting suspect

Law enforcement agencies in North Idaho and northeastern Washington are searching for a man who allegedly fired multiple shots at a deputy’s patrol car during a pursuit that crossed state lines Monday night. No one was injured in the chase, which began around 11:15 p.m.

Edit: End near for CdA school boss 

In an editorial today, the Coeur d'Alene Press comments that the end is obviously near for Coeur d'Alene Superintendent Matt Handelman. Handelman was a finalist for the superintendent's job in Edmonds, Wash. Now, he's a finalist for the super's job in Cheney, Wash. Obviously, Handelman wants out of Coeur d'Alene for some reason.

Games are afoot in attempts to evade Idaho’s Sunshine Law, as a series of related companies controlled by eastern Idaho businessman Doyle Beck and attorney and former congressional candidate Bryan Smith are funneling large sums of money into several GOP legislative challengers’ campaigns in advance of next week’s primary election.
