Weekend Wild Card -- 5.21-22.16 

After a long but relatively satisfying week of covering the Idaho primaries and their aftermath, I'm looking forward to down time this weekend. I have two thirds of the garden planted. But there's enough to do in the yard to fill a day, weather permitting. If it rains, I want to catch up on reading on my covered front porch.

Bill Dentzer of the Idaho Statesman takes on the claim by Wayne Hoffman of Idaho Freedom Foundation that Idaho conservatives had their best night in years. Alan Young, an Emmy Award-winning comic actor best remembered for playing Wilbur, the human sidekick and wonky owner of a talking palomino horse in the 1960s television sitcom “Mister Ed,” died Thursday at the Motion Picture & Television Home in Woodland Hills, Calif. He was 96.

Theater proposes 300-seat venue 10 

After years of looking for the perfect spot for a larger performance venue in Coeur d’Alene, The Modern Theater believes it has found it. The nonprofit company proposes building a 300-seat, $12M theater with adjoining retail space in the Midtown neighborhood just north of Capone’s Pub & Grill.

Hoffman: Conservatives did, too, win 14 

Responding to widespread media reports that the Idaho Freedom Foundation/Action was a Big Loser Tuesday, IFF director Wayne Hoffman comments that conservatives did win. Hoffman: "Tuesday night wasn’t a disappointment, though. Far from it. Any suggestion to the contrary on the part of the media is journalistic malpractice."

State Sen. Shawn Keough and state Rep. Luke Malek weren't the only successful Republican campaigners targeted for defeat Tuesday. Jet boat races coming to local rivers 

If you feel the need for speed, the USA World Championship Marathon Jet Boat Races just may be your ticket this weekend and next week. Jet boats, which can reach speeds of 150 mph, will be on the St. Joe River Saturday and Sunday and on the Coeur d'Alene River Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mayor unveils Moore memorial plans 

Mayor Steve Widmyer and city officials launched a fundraiser to generate enough money to build a water feature at McEuen Park to honor Sgt. Greg Moore, who was killed in the line of duty last year. “It really is an important day to be here,” Widmyer said during a press conference announcing his “#$27 for K27” memorial fundraiser at McEuen Park.
