St Vinnys to open warming center

With the extreme cold weather, St Vincent de Paul’s Warming Center will be open for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning Wednesday and all day Thanksgiving Thursday. Future nights will be extended as extreme cold persists.

Dow passes 19,000 

The Dow Jones industrial average surpassed 19,000 for the first time Tuesday as a post-election rally drove indexes further into record territory. Discount store chains made large gains, but health care companies tumbled.

PFPD officer faces DUI charge after accident 

Post Falls Police officer Brenda Knight has been charged with a DUI after an off-duty car accident Saturday night near Rathdrum. Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies and medical personnel were dispatched to the area of Boekel Road and Forestdale Drive around 6:25 p.m. Saturday for a possible injury crash, according to a KCSD release.

Judge blocks Obama overtime rule 

The Labor Department’s contentious overtime rule was blocked Tuesday by a federal judge in Texas, according to several media reports. The rule backed by President Obama extends overtime pay to more than 4 million workers, and was scheduled to go into effect on Dec. 1. Do you agree/disagree with this decision?

Huckleberries has learned that Joan Harman, 62, of Coeur d'Alene, died Saturday. Harman, who blogged under the pseudonym Arch Druid, was a long-time contributor to Huckleberries Online. Also, she was an avid writer of letters to the editor. She was born April 14, 1954.

F&G still wants Black Rock Ranch

Idaho officials have a new plan for buying a 1,000-acre former horse ranch along the Coeur d’Alene River. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game plans to buy Black Lake Ranch for $2.6 million from a private landowner, Minnaloosa Land Co. Becky Kramer/SR reports.

Internet problems pop up, pipe down 

Customers who get their internet from Time Warner Cable experienced a brief outage this morning when a server in Los Angeles went down. The server, and internet access, were quickly restored. Neither Kootenai Electric Cooperative nor Avista reported any substantial power outages this morning.
