Hump Day Wild Card -- 11.29.16 

Either Mrs O or I forgot to latch Huckleberry's kennel last night. So we heard the pitter-patter of little feet an hour too early this morning. I thought -- pretended? -- I was dreaming. So Mrs O got up to let Huckleberry outside earlier than usual. I couldn't go back to sleep. So I went down stairs to begin the day. Huckleberry seemed satisfied.

The Web site 24/7 Wall Street has decided that Coeur d'Alene is the drunkest city in Idaho, based on several factors. But don't worry too much. Idaho is a tea-totaling state. "Drunk" Coeur d'Alene consumes a tick more than the national average.

On the Waterfront

I was surprised to find that the Coeur d'Alene Resort Boardwalk was open for pedestrians, when I ventured out for my daily noon walk today. I was planning a new route as I approached the clock tower. But I noticed the boardwalk open. Usually, it closes in November through the end of January to protect all the light displays along the boardwalk.

Jim Delligatti, Big Mac creator, 98, RIP 

Jim Delligatti, an erstwhile McDonald's Corp. franchisee in the Pittsburgh area who created the Big Mac, has died at age 98. Delligatti concocted the Big Mac in the mid-1960s because he believed the burgers-and-fries menu needed something bigger and juicier. The Wall Street Journal reports. Are you a fan of the Big Mac?

Report of man w/gun locks down schools 

A report of an armed man, possibly a hunter, set off a series of school security alerts Wednesday morning in Rathdrum. The Lakeland School District sent parents and staff a message just before 9 a.m. saying an armed man had been spotted on the railroad tracks at Washington and Main streets, which is near John Brown Elementary School.

In a news release this AM, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office describes the arrest of Charles Ray Bartkowiak, 34, of Hayden, who is the suspect in the Monday PM robbery of BankCDA/Hayden. Bartkowiak has an extensive criminal history in Kootenai County, dating back to 1999.

Idaho tax shifts to residences 11 

Residential property owners are now paying 65 percent of the property taxes collected in Idaho, while commercial property owners are paying 27 percent, reports Betsy Russell/Eye on Boise. That’s a shift from back in 1996, when commercial property owners paid 30 percent and residential property owners paid 54 percent. Thoughts?
