Migrating eagles attract tourist $$$ 

The annual migration of bald eagles to Lake Coeur d'Alene an Lake Pend Oreille has been a significant tourism draw since the 1990s, reports Becky Kramer/SR. Edit: Idaho D's shouldn't back down 14 

Rather than back down in the face of another demoralizing election season, the Idaho State Journal of Pocatello, encourages Idaho Democrats to shout their message low and clear. Idaho needs an opposition party, the Journal says, because, among other things, Idaho Republicans have shown they are unable to solve any of the state's problems.

Wild Card/Tuesday -- 11.29.16 16 

During the Thanksgiving weekend, I followed Amy Dearest and Mrs O into the Mountain Madness Soap Co in downtown Coeur d'Alene. The place was packed with women smelling all the soap scents made in the basement below. My sniffer isn't all that good. I couldn't tell Patchouli/Honey from Huckleberry. But there is one smell that stood out. Dirt.

Does Sandpoint want a carousel, too? 

Coeur d'Alene will soon have a carousel again. And Sandpoint might not be far behind. A Sandpoint couple has purchased what is believed to be a 1920 Allan Hershell Carousel and brought it back to Sandpoint for an unveiling Saturday. Reno and Clay Hutchison would like to see a year-round carousel in Sandpoint, too.

In praise on indie bookstores 

This weekend during Small Business Saturday, (Cindy Hval) got to spend a few hours as an honorary bookseller at Auntie’s Bookstore in Spokane. Saturday was a designated Indies First event. Indies First is a collaboration between authors, publishers, retailers, and readers, and it celebrates independent bookstores and local communities.

Homeless shelter moratorium enacted 

The Lewiston City Council has approved a 182-day moratorium on new or expanded homeless shelters in the city. The Lewiston Tribune reports that on Monday the council voted in favor of the moratorium, which officials say will give the council time to enact new zoning codes and standards for the organizations.

Winter German Market coming to CdA 

Darrell Dlouhy of Daft Badger/CdA is planning an authentic German Market at McEuen Park for the Christmas holidays next year, with mulled wine, beer, brats, music and 60-80 vendors selling their crafts. Darrell told Huckleberries this morning that he wanted to do something at McEuen Park to enliven the holidays in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

The Seattle area has the hottest housing market in the country – the first time in nine years that Seattle has led the United States in home-price growth.
