Is Otter in line for appointment?

Two Idaho governors have served as Secretary of the Interior in the past -- Cecil Andrus and Dirk Kempthorne. Butch Otter might be the third, according to some speculation. If Otter received such an appointment, reports Betsy Russell/Eye on Boise, that would give Lt Gov Brad Little a leg up in the 2018 gubernatorial election.

Injured coach happy to be alive

George Swanson can’t remember the Jeep Cherokee barreling toward him at 70 mph, or the collision that sent his body flying 60 feet. The NIC assistant men's basketball coach can't even recall his first eight days confined to a Sacred Heart Medical Center bed due to the trauma. But he's thankful to be alive today, reports Ryan Collingwood/Press.

Travelers arrive at O'Hare International Airport for holiday traveling in Chicago today. While driving remains the most popular form of transportation Thanksgiving travelers take, AAA expects just under 4 million people to fly to their holiday destinations. Question: Are you flying anywhere this Thanksgiving weekend?

Thanksgiving Wild Card -- 11.24.16 11

The kids arrived around 11:30 Wednesday night for Portland. We visited a bit. And now it's time to rest up for a Thanksgiving gathering at my sister-in-law's place in Hayden. Huckleberries will be shut down until Monday. But I'll post Wild Cards in the interim.…

Hump Day Wild Card -- 11.23.16 11

I rarely pray for rain. But I am this week. I'd rather have liquid sunshine than snow because Amy Dearest & Okie Doke are headed to Coeur d'Alene for the Thanksgiving holidays. While Mrs O and Amy Dearest are binge watching the "Gilmore Girls" sequel on our new, ha-huge TV set, I have a laundry list of technical issues for my tech-savvy son-in-law.

In today's editorial, the Spokesman-Review comments: "Along with the revival of civics classes, our educational system could, perhaps, introduce courses in media literacy, because Americans are in serious need of a reality check." Crisis center opens in Twin Falls

Do you remember when some of our Kootenai County legislators fought tooth & nail to keep a mental health crisis center from opening in Coeur d'Alene. We lost the center to southeastern Idaho for a season. But have one now. Now, a third center has opened, in Twin Falls, and a 4th is planned in Boise.

SR photog Colin Mulvany Facebooks: "My neighborhood has had a ton of car break-ins lately. This guy was (allegedly) caught breaking into a car tonight by the owners who chased him down and beat the over the head with a sparkling cider bottle." (Colin Mulvany)

Barking up the wrong vehicle 19

A car burglary suspect wasn't ready for the swift justice handed out by homeowners on Spokane's South Hill. Seems a couple spotted a man in their car, chased him down and took away a replica gun that he brandished at them. Seems the suspect was also hit over the head with a sparkling cider bottle and required medical attention.
