Wild Card/Monday -- 10.24.16 

I'm glad that I'm only a casual Seattle Seahawks fan this morning. After watching the exercise in futility between the Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals last night, I have to shake my head and say: Thank goodness. There is too much pain in out-and-out fandom. More often than not, you end up disappointed. (Think: Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament.)

Amber Alert Canceled -- for Danika Packard, 6 

Update: An Amber Alert was canceled Monday afternoon after a 6-year-old Spokane Valley girl taken from her school was found safe on Spokane’s South Hill, police said. Police issued the alert earlier in the day, saying Danika L. Packard may be in danger in the company of her mother, Tracy A. Packard, 35.

Idaho #2 in Ed funding cuts 

In a report from the Washington Post, Idaho ranks 2nd in the amount of spending cuts for K-12 education from the Great Recession to 2014. Idaho is one of several states whose spending for public education is lower now than it was before 2008 -- 22.6% less. The Washington Post reports.

Shasta Groene, who was kidnapped from her North Idaho home by serial killer Joseph Edward Duncan III in May 2005, has started a change.org petition to change the law on sentences for sex offenders. '60s radical Tom Hayden, 76, RIP 

NPR reports: "Tom Hayden, a radical activist and advocate for progressive causes, died Sunday at the age of 76. In the early 1960s, Hayden was a freedom rider in the South and a community organizer in Newark. He was a civil rights activist who became famous for his anti-war efforts and made several high-profile trips to Vietnam.

Since the power-grabbing Idaho Legislature didn't get the message 2 years ago, the Idaho Press-Tribune of Nampa urges another no vote on HJR 5. Two years ago, Idahoans rejected a similar amendment under a different name. The Legislature wants veto-proof control over agency rules. The Nampa paper says a pig w/lipstick is still a pig.
