Hayden man charged in Kirk killing 15 

Officials arrested 44-year-old David E. Hutto for second-degree murder Friday evening in connection with the death of Coeur d’Alene resident William “Bo” Kirk. Hutto was arrested just before 7 p.m. Friday at the Coeur d’Alene Burger King on Appleway, said Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Stu Miller.

Weekend Wild Card -- 10.29-30.16

I joined my brother-in-law to see my first high school game of the year Friday, Coeur d'Alene High's 54-13 rout of Borah High. The Viks had too much talent. We sat high in the students' section. I was surprised that the game didn't have a better attendance, esp. from the students.

CdA trucker gets life for sexually abusing boys 

A long-haul trucker from Coeur d’Alene will spend at least 35 years in prison for molesting boys. Kevin Gerard Sloniker, 31, pleaded guilty earlier this year to molesting seven boys between the ages of 8 and 14 over the course of a decade. He met many of the boys and their families through Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls.

City preps for annual Leaf Fest

The City of Coeur d’Alene is inviting residents to rake pine needles into the street for pickup as crews ready for the City’s annual leaf hauling endeavor – known as Leaf Fest. Coeur d’Alene is also inviting community members interested in utilizing leaves or pine needles for mulch or landscaping to call in and coordinate pickup.

In an edit today, the Coeur d'Alene Press urges a "no" vote on HJR 5. It begins: "Voter alert: There's a trick question on your ballot." Then: "The question, better known as HJR 5, sounds innocuous enough to evoke a quick “yes” vote and move on. But The Press encourages you to vote “no” on this proposed constitutional amendment instead."
