Scarywood to haunt October 

Scarywood Haunted Nights opened Friday at Silverwood Theme Park in Athol for another October run. The SR's Tyler Tjomsland was there to photography "Clowntown" among other features of the haunted theme park, including the "Zombiewood Express." (Q: Do you enjoy being scared?)

Labrador angry as delegation splits 

Betsy Russell begins her Eye on Boise column by reporting on the split in the Idaho delegation re: the continuing resolution to fund the government, which avoided a government shutdown by two days. Congress passed the bill overwhelmingly. Rep. Labrador and Sen. Risch voted no. Rep. Simpson and Sen. Crapo voted yes.

Carousel to collide w/Sunday law? 

If you trust the Internet, you'll learn that Idaho has a law that prevents merry-go-rounds from operating on Sundays. It's called the Sunday Rest Law. Cari Fraser of the Coeur d'Alene Carousel Foundation and Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh were both surprised to learn about the law. My Sunday Huckleberries column investigates.

Weekend Wild Card -- 10.1-2.16 12 

I visited with a cousin of mine whom I hadn't seen in at least 50 years, last night at my sister's house in the greater Athol area. He's 6 years younger. So I was 15-16 and he was 9-10 the last time I saw him. We swapped stories and caught up on family news for three hours. The time flew by.
