Trib: Jeers to Rep. Heather Scott 

In his Cheers & Jeers column, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune JEERS state Rep. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard. Trillhaase points out it has been weeks since allegations surfaced that Scott's supporters were harassing people who support her opponent. Yet, she hasn't uttered a word asking them to stand down.

Not guilty 38 

Armed antigovernment protesters led by Ammon and Ryan Bundy were acquitted Thursday of federal conspiracy and weapons charges stemming from the takeover of a federally owned wildlife sanctuary in Oregon last winter. Barbieri, Redman seek re-election in HD2 races 

North Idaho’s Legislative District 2 is among the most conservative in the state, and GOP incumbents Vito Barbieri and Eric Redman are hoping to keep it that way. Both face Democratic challengers in November, with longtime area teacher Kathy Kahn challenging Barbieri, and Richard Kohles, a former Post Falls school board member, challenging Redman.

Coeur d’Alene Police said Thursday morning that a Coeur d’Alene man missing since Tuesday has been found. Previously Timothy Patrick Sullivan, 58, was last seen at Lacrosse Health and Rehab at 210 W. Lacrosse Tuesday evening around 6:30 p.m.

New UI arena will be boost, if ...

In a Moscow-Pullman Daily News edit, Devin Rokyta comments that a proposed new UIdaho arena will be a boost for the Moscow-Pullman area if it gets off the ground. UI has already raised half of the money for the $30M project, which will include a 4,700-seat, 70,000sf area north of the Kibbie Dome.

Law prof says HJR 5 'real danger' 

Both House Speaker Scott Bedke and Senate Majority Leader Bart Davis say they disagree with Gov. Butch Otter’s interpretation of the “in whole or in part” clause in the proposed Idaho constitutional amendment, HJR 5, but a University of Idaho law professor says the clause certainly could be read in the way Otter’s pointing out.

The Idaho Statesman has endorsed Democrat James Piotrowski over Republican Congressman Raul Labrador, stating it's time for a change: "we want more from our representative than the frequent “No” votes ... especially on spending bills where there are few other responsible choices than for Congress to vote to fund our government."

Statesman reluctantly backs Crapo 

The Idaho Statesman Editorial Board gives a reluctant endorsement to U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo: "We are not convinced Crapo is back on track since the DUI. He may be lost, coasting or drafting off a reputation as that fiscal-responsibility fighter best depicted in one of his TV commercials." Yet, the Statesman isn't quite ready to give up on Crapo.
