Sam: Victory opened prematurely

Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor (RE: For those keeping score at home ... Victory pub is open):

"Apologies for the confusion, but this business is not open yet. The City is working with the owners to ensure they pass their final inspection. This opening was premature and there were various code requirements that need to be completed. This morning the City posted notice to not occupy. We are meeting with folks there this afternoon to review the checklist and see if those items were rectified.

"The City takes life safety issues very seriously, and several of the items were related to odor control and gas line safety, among other things. Being open prior to receiving a certificate of occupancy is a big deal and can confuse the public into thinking the City has done its vital job of protecting life safety. In this case, we had not approved the opening and explicitly did not issue a temporary certificate of occupancy. We are glad the owners are working hard with us to get open as quickly as possible and we're excited for an additional downtown business. Life safety will always be paramount."
