My winter wood has arrived and it's half stacked. Per usual, Chris arrived with 2 cords of top-notch, split red fir late yesterday afternoon. We caught up on things as we tossed the wood into a big pile to be stacked later. Chris & his wood represent my first step in preparing for winter.

Gfeller announces NIC trustee run 

Greg Gfeller, director of operations for Avista's East Region, will challenge incumbent Todd Banducci in one of two contest North Idaho College trustee races. Gfeller officially announced his candidacy this week. He already has the endorsement of Balance North Idaho.

Love Story: 70 years, 25,550 pennies 

They say the value of true love cannot be measured, but when Glenn and FloraBelle Dobbins celebrated their 70th anniversary, Sept. 15, a friend tried. He gave them a penny for every day of their marriage. That’s 25,550 pennies (not counting leap year days) and he had to go to six different banks to collect them. Cindy Hval/SR reports.

73YO CdA woman killed in rollover

A one-vehicle crash Thursday evening on U.S. 95 killed a 73-year-old Coeur d'Alene woman. Mary Ann Scoggins was traveling north after 9 p.m. and was roughly 15 miles south of Coeur d'Alene when she drove off the right shoulder of the road, according to Idaho State Police. CdA Press reports.

One of the few places I've been pulled over for speeding is Colfax, Wash. It is known as a speed trap. Mrs. O & I were returning from a high school football game in Orofino. I wasn't paying attention. I didn't get a ticket. Today, the SR looks at the speed trap that has caught many Cougar fans on WSU game day.
