McKenzie pushes legislative record

Idaho test score improve

Idaho students made slight but across-the-board improvements in the second round of the state’s new standardized test. The State Department of Education released spring scores on the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium exams Friday morning, and state superintendent Sherri Ybarra touted the across-the-board gains.

Remembering 9/11

The cities of Coeur d'Alene (2 p.m. Sunday at Fallen Heroes Plaza at Cherry Hill Park) and Post Falls (9 a.m. Monday at Post Falls City Hall) will honor the victims of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack in New York City. Today, agencies and individuals throughout the land are also remembering the man-caused tragedy.

Wells Fargo slapped w/$185M fine 

I've been a Wells Fargo customer for decades. Therefore, I'm bugged by this story re: the bank's practice of secretly issuing credit cards without a customer's consent. I doubt that I'm bugged enough to take my banking needs elsewhere. Too much bother. But I certainly will view Wells Fargo differently now. How about you?

CdA opens Boys & Girls Club

An open house will be conducted today for the new Boys & Girls Club in Coeur d'Alene, according to a report by Kaitlin Loukides, KREM 2. A $2M donation from Duane and Lola Hagadone made the club possible. It will be named after the Hagadones.

A $6 million project to arrest erosion in the Clark Fork delta has a multitude of beneficiaries, including paddlers.Waterfowl and hunters, fish and fishermen, birds and birdwatchers are finding more attraction to the area as a partnership of agencies and groups works to restore wetlands thru which the Clark Fork River pours into Lake Pend Oreille.

County almost makes fair audit vote 

Kootenai County Commissioners nearly made an impromptu decision Thursday on whether to move forward with a forensic audit of the Kootenai County fairground’s finances. In the end, they sidestepped the vote because the issue of a vote on the matter wasn't on the meeting agenda.

Suicide prevention program launched

Idaho’s suicide rate has long been far above the national average; the state had the 9th highest suicide rate in the country in 2014. Now, however, it has an Office of Suicide Prevention, funding for the state’s 24/7 suicide prevention hotline, and an array of groups committed to carrying out a coordinated statewide suicide prevention plan.

Man faces murder charge in tot's death 

A Coeur d’Alene man was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in the death of his young stepson last month. Joseph J. Davis, 31, was arrested Aug. 27 for felony injury to a child. Maliki Willburn, 16 months old, was hospitalized in Spokane for head trauma and died Aug. 29.
