Huckleberries Online

Flashback: He loved me not

Not everyone loves Huckleberries today. The same situation existed 25 years ago (August 1992):

"City P&Z Commissioner Dee Jameson writes: "As a long-time resident of the city of Coeur d'Alene, frankly I am very tired of picking up Monday morning's paper and seeing a column that devotes itself amost entirely to belittling the mayor of Coeur d'Alene and his efforts to make the city a better place to live ... I hope that you fully understand that not everybody in this town thinks the Huckleberries is particularly humerous (sic)."

And that item was followed by this one:

Speaking of the mayor, Hizzoner Ray Stone was introduced to an S-R reporter by state Commerce Director Jim Hawkins at the Harper's shindig at Post Falls. While shaking hands, the mayor held forth on his low opinion of the paper and how he takes pleasure in tearing it up. Hawkins, up from Boise for the big event, seemed taken aback a moment, but resumed talking to the reporter as the mayor turned about and left.
