Big win for supporters of new Moscow ice rink

After months of discussions and paperwork, the councilors on Monday night officially committed $1 million from the fund to help pay for the proposed ice rink’s construction costs.

The Palouse Ice Rink board is already taking steps that lead toward construction.

Tony Mangini, vice president of the Palouse Ice Rink board, told the councilors last week the board decided to hire Longwell and Trapp Architects of Hayden, Idaho, to develop a design for the project, which he said further demonstrates the board’s commitment to making the new ice rink a reality.

“We’re not talking about if we build an ice rink,” Mangini said. “It’s when we build an ice rink, and it’s a mentality we’re changing internally, and we’re going to be changing within the community.”

The resolution passed Monday night says the city will only obligate the Hamilton funds toward the proposed ice rink until the expiration of the conditional use permit for the current rink, June 28, 2019.

Mangini said the board is working hard to develop corporate sponsorship opportunities to assist in its fundraising efforts.
