24 LEGEND CARS FIRE UP THE SPRING OPENER AT MRP

Montana Raceway Park celebrated its 19th annual Coca Cola Spring Opener last Saturday Night with a lot of live action firing up the show…The Trophy Dashes were action packed with a checker flag flying for the legends with a racing incident causing the #5* of Spike Schultze to fly through the air and take a spill into the tires, demolishing the car but the driver was ok, it started the night out with a bang. The number 12 driven by Rick Blanchette took the win on the trophy dash.

In the heat racing events the racing was door to door all night long, you would of though it was the last race of the season the cars were taking the high banked oval like pros. Heat race winners on Saturday #8 Mike Hilliker in the Bandos, with his new paint job was like a veteran taking the field.

Josh Norris in the #6 Bomber was on a roll, Having his first win ever first taking the trophy dash and then the heat. Mr, Norris was beaming all night for his accomplishments. Hornet driver #20 Jamie Peterson was looking good for his first night out taking the win for the dash, 2nd in the heat and a 3rd in the main. Your 2007 Limited Sportsman Champion Jason Robinson was back in the winners circle for the dash.

The Legends showing a strong number for the 2009 season came into the pits with 24 cars a record for the opening race at MRWP. Heat race winners for the legends were Zach Havens in the B heat and Scott Dalla your 2008 Legend Pro Champion took the win in the A heat.

The #01 rookie driver Sierra Turner and #54 of Tristin Corpron got into a wreck between turn 3 & 4 with only a few laps to go, with 2nd year driver the up & coming racer Dalton Halden took the win from the boys on the opener.

The Hobby Stock had a strong showing with 4 rookie drivers taking the track on, and they all did well hanging with the veterans Dustin Martel and Nick Szalay.

The Hornets were amazing going green white checkered for their main event, NO Cautions and taking the checkered flag was #18 Tim Hatlen in the #18 car. Heat winners for the B heat was #56 Keith Sheppard and A heat winner Miss. Katie Pilsch.

In the Limited Sportsmen Main #76 of Steve Fainter was having a rookie night first breaking a tire rod in turn three during the trophy dash and then in the main taking a trip to the off ramp giving the water barrel barriers a lesson spreading water all over the track, he’ll be back and ready for racing in two weeks. # 74 Jason Robinson won the Sportsman Main event.

Scott Dalla, Scott Moore and Wrango West went 1-2-3 for the main event all pros were showing there talent weaving in and out of lap traffic to put on a show.

Be sure to race out this weekend to see the 2nd annual Battle of the Borders featuring the Super Late Models, Thunder Roadsters, Compacts, and Bandoleros.
