Eye On Olympia

No word on whether “Battle Hymn of the Republic” was playing softly in the background…

State Democratic Party Chairman Paul Berendt announced last week that the party was taking King County to court over election procedures.

"We have one objective," Berendt said. "Count every vote."

Every vote, that is, so long as it's a vote for his candidate in the still-razor-thin race for governor. It turns out that there's a litmus test when Democrats call to tell you how to fix the problems so your vote will count.

"First we ask if they supported Chris Gregoire in the election," said King County phone bank volunteer Kate Collins. "If it's a no, then it's 'Thank you for your time and have a nice day.' "

Short takes and breaking news from the Washington Legislature and the state capital.
