Volunteers to clear Mount Spokane nordic ski trails

WINTERSPORTS -- Great skiing on one of the nation's largest nordic trail system isn't an accident at Mount Spokane.  Members of Spokane Nordic have been assisting state park rangers for years in pre-season efforts to clear the trails and have them ready for grooming when the snow falls.

The group has set a trail maintenance session for Saturday,  Aug. 9 -- the second trail clearing day of the year.  Work will include clearing trails, moving firewood and possibly preparing the Nova Hut for painting.

Meet at the Selkirk Lodge at 9 a.m. and work until 3 p.m., or as much of that time as your schedule allows. Bring work gloves, lunch and water. If you have any questions, email Brian Hawkins at brianthawkins@hotmail.com.

The next trail maintenance day is set for Sept. 13.
