Give students a real test: send them outdoors

"I don’t want my children to feel the same sense of failure I did growing up because they’re not good at passing tests," says Ben Fogle, adventurer and conservationist. Fogle has rowed the Atlantic Ocean, raced across the Antarctic and run across the Sahara desert. A passionate conservationist he works as a broadcaster all over the world. He has written seven books on travel, adventure and the outdoors. (Courtesy)

OUTDOORS EDUCATION -- Instead of pumping so much time and money into exams, our schools should focus more on well-being and encouraging children to connect with the natural world.

That's the message from Ben Fogle in a piece he wrote for The Guardain.

‘I don’t want my children to feel the same sense of failure I did growing up because they’re not good at passing tests,’ says Ben Fogle.

The outdoors is a living classroom that can stimulate a youth's interest in everything from biology to writing.
