BIG GAME -- As tough as bighorn sheep are, they're no match for diseases they encounter from domestic sheep.  Wild sheep populations have been ravaged in Hells Canyon and elsewhere by disease.    Fans of these native critters will watching this new trend carefully.

Decision on domestic sheep grazing in Idaho could affect land use across the West
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling earlier this month that upheld the Payette National Forest's decision to ban domestic sheep grazing in some areas of the forest in Idaho to prevent transmission of disease to bighorn herds. This ruling gives land-use managers a solid foundation for similar decisions across the Rocky Mountain West.
