Hiking to the high Selkirks? Bring snowshoes

HIKING -- It's still a bit early for easy going into the high country. Snowshoes may be required.

Spokane Mountaineer Shuwen Wang last weekend snapped the photo above of Harrison Lake at the head of the Pack River Road area north of Sandpoint.  The Selkirk Mountains lake and peak are popular summer-fall destinations.

Wang and  her party encountered hip-deep snow in the forested portion of the route. But they had snowshoes and made it all the way in.
