SHOOTING -- One of the S-R's systems experts knows the language of computers as well as the language of sportsmen.

His reply to my query on the safety of opening an attachment directed to me in a questionable email is good advice for computer users and hunters alike. Say's Andrew:

My rule of thumb is that emails are a lot like firearms.

  1. Always assume an email is a scam, until you are 100% confident otherwise.
  2. If you don’t know who the sender is and he doesn’t indicate who you are, that’s a huge red flag that it’s a scam and you should be extra careful.
  3. Be sure that you understand and know what link/document you are opening before you open it.
  4. Don’t click it to “see” what happens.

Thanks for the insight, Andrew. You nailed two birds with one shot.
