Photos: Great gray owl highlight of Montana trip

BIRDING -- A 10-day trip to Western Montana paid off "big" for wildlife shutterbugs Buck and Sandy Dometrovich of Cheney.

They returned to an area where they'd photographed a great gray owl in April, and against all odds, they found it again, or at least another great gray.

"We watched it hunting for some 30 minutes," Buck said.

Great grays are the longest of the owl species. Although they are large, the are found in woods near open meadows where their preferred prey is small rodents.
