CONSERVATION – Breathtaking landscapes will dominate the picture this week at the third-annual Spokane screening of environmental films that feature nature's beauty, cutting edge environmental issues, humor and more.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is set for Thursday, May 4, at the Garland Theater, 924 W. Garland Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m.; show starts at 7 as a benefit for the Spokane Riverkeeper and Spokane River projects.

The show will include a mix of short films, 4 to 15 minutes, and a longer 25-minute film, “The Elwha Undammed-What's a River For.”

The un-damming of the Elwha River on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula was the largest river restoration project in U.S. history, with many benefits including the restoration of salmon runs.

“Other films call out the beauty of the continental divide, while still others are take on hard environmental issues,” says Riverkeeper organizer Jerry White. “Come visit tables and talk to environmentally minded folks and enjoy a raffle for great prizes.”

Tickets are $15 at the door or $10 in advance online through eventbrite.com.

The Festival is supported by Mountain Gear, Patagonia, River City Brewing, Silver Bow Fly Shop and numerous non-profit organizations.
