HIKING -- Sherman Peak south of Sherman Pass in northeastern Washington wasn't in the path of totality for Monday's solar eclipse, but the view was totally awesome for Bobby Whittaker.

A 6-mile round-trip trek took the Kettle Valley man to 7,000 feet and the top of the world in Ferry County, where he snapped this "Bubbli" view panorama of the Kettle River Range during the eclipse.

By the way, the Sherman Peak Loop Trail (Hike 7 in "100 Hikes in the Inland Northwest")  is an excellent trek and workout virtually year round via boots, skis or snowshoes.
