Hog Canyon Lake road access closed by washout; anglers must walk in

FISHING -- The road leading to the water access site on Hog Canyon Lake owned by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife in Spokane County is temporarily closed to vehicles.

The gate at Jack Brown Road and Lake Valley Loop Road, which is about a mile from Hog Canyon Lake, has been locked.

The gravel service road, owned and maintained by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in the Fishtrap Recreation Area, suffered several washouts due to recent flooding and was closed approximately one mile northwest of the lake.  Limited road shoulder parking is available at the closed gate, and the WDFW site remains open to foot traffic during the road closure.

Neither agency provided a current report on the ice or open water conditions at the lake.

WDFW Eastern Region access manager Dan Dziekan says current conditions will likely require the road remain closed during the remainder of the winter-only fishing season at Hog Canyon Lake, which closes March 31.

Hog Canyon Lake, also known as Hog Lake, is located about 14 miles southwest of Cheney in southwest Spokane County.
