Prepare for the big one: Long-distance hiking seminar in Coeur d’Alene
BACKPACKING – A day-long seminar for backpackers interested hikes ranging to weeks and months is set for Saturday, Feb. 4, in Coeur d’Alene.
The 3rd annual Winter Ruck sponsored by the American Long Distance Hiking Association-West is set for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Lake City Community Church, 6200 N. Ramsey Rd.
“The ruck is designed for anyone interested in doing a long distance hike, especially on the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Pacific Northwest Trail or any other long distance trail,” said local organizer Bob Turner, a PCT veteran.
Presenters include experienced long distance hikers who have hiked a minimum of 8,000 miles on the PCT, AT and Continental Divide Trail.
“Plenty of time will be given to talk to and interact with these highly experienced hikers,” Turner said.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their backpack and gear. One of our experienced members will be available to review your gear and offer advice in a one-on-one pack shake down with advice on create a lighter load tailored to individual needs.
