WATERSPORTS -- Kayakers are willing to drag their boats over snow to get in on the spring runoff whitewater action this month.

Local paddler Brian Jamieson and friends headed to Western Montana's Yaak River last weekend. Since the Lincoln County Sheriff hasn't closed access to its raging rivers -- actually, no county in this region has done that except in Spokane County-- they found some pucker factor in the in the Yaak's whitewater, measuring 5.8 feet at the gauge.
