The Slice

Confusing my UW presidents

In the late 1990s, I found myself in an elevator at Husky Stadium with the president of the University of Washington (and a couple of other people).

Over the years that followed, I got it in my head that he was someone I didn't admire. But this morning, I realized I had it all wrong. A story about the death of a former UW president made it all clear.

The guy who just died was the gentleman with whom I shared an elevator. Apparently he did a lot of good things.

The man I thought I had encountered and eventually came to disdain wasn't president when I was at Husky Stadium that day.

So much for trusting your memory.

Ever been similarly confused?
