The Slice

Easy for you to say

Last night, a network news anchor tried to pronounce "Okanogan."

"O-kahn-i-gun" is what she said.

Don't know if some staff member screwed up the phonetic cues on the teleprompter or what. But it was mildly amusing.

Still, it's not unheard of for Inland Northwest place names to be incorrectly pronounced.

Sure, we are all familiar with "Spo-cane." But it's not just that. What about, say, "Man-ee-to" for "Manito" or "Lotta" for "Latah"?

The list goes on.
