The Slice

Marketing gone awry

Got a note from my friend Mike Almond.

"With all the supposed 'personalized' marketing we are supposed to be getting these days, I always enjoy finding  examples of marketing gone awry. This has actually been going on awhile -- my first example was getting an urgent appeal in the mail to join AARP...at the age of 35.

"My given name (Michael) has caused some confused computers to shoot our offerings like subscription offers to Cosmopolitan magazine and so on, obviously intended for someone more likely named 'Michelle'.

"But I think my wife suffered the first real indignity today when the coupon printer at the grocery store check-stand shot out a coupon for...adult diapers."
